TSCC seeks friendly and outgoing computer literate volunteers who want to teach adult learners basic computer skills. As a volunteer, you would be providing instruction or tutoring a maximum of fifteen students per class.
Goals (Teacher)
- teach TSCC curriculum
- supervise DECLA teacher assistant volunteers to deliver a quality program
- administer tests to students & provide data to staff
- provide valuable feedback on how to continuously improve our curriculum
- develop new curriculum when appropriate
- work with staff and communicate any issues in program delivery
Goals (Teacher Assistant)
- assist the DECLA teacher
- tutor students during class hours so they do not fall behind
- help prepare materials for students prior to instruction
- provide support to the DECLA teacher as needed or requested
Minimum Requirements
- Must have a sincere desire to teach adults
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Teachers must be proficient in Microsoft Office software applications
- Teacher Assistants must have a basic working knowledge of Word, Excel, and use of the internet
Time Commitment
- Monday & Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:30 pm
- Teachers must commit for 13 weeks (4 hours per week.)
- Teacher Assistants can self select days
Background of DECLA students
Many of our students have never touched a computer before and do not have access to a computer or the internet at home. Our students come from low income backgrounds. Most are Latino immigrants with little to no English skills. Our student’s ages range from young adult (early 20’s) to older adults (35+).
